OPENING DAY of the exhibit "Buses and Baseball"--don't miss this GREAT exhibit. Yesterday, one of our volunteers setting up the exhibit was Jim Weedon - our 90 year old Negro League Baseball Player--he is so interesting to talk to about the game! He played outfield for the Harrisburg Giants.
Jim is the fellow on the left. The gentleman on the right is Hal Waddell - nephew of one of the All-
American Girls Professional Baseball players, Sis Waddell. Sis joined us last year from Indiana for an autograph session, however, she is unable to come east this year.

The rain has been unending around here the last week--actually all Spring. We have had 20 inches since March and 6 official tornados have touched down in the Susquehanna Valley.
One of the laws in the State of Pennsylvania (and many other states)--if you have your windshield wipers on, you are required to have your headlights on. I think many people ignore that when they drive a car with "running lights". However, in the last issue of the AAA Magazine, in the "Ask The Trooper" section, that very question was asked...the answer--no, running lights are not the same as headlights. The whole reason for the law was to make cars visible in the rain...when you have your running lights on, they are usually half-power and your taillights are not lit. The police usually will not stop you for not having your headlights on--however, if you are stopped for another reason/infraction, they can give you a ticket for not having your headlights on when your wipers are on.

Rain, rain and more rain is making our decision to hold the Spring Fling on the lower level of the Museum an even wiser decision that we had thought! Hope to see you all on June 4!
It sure is encouraging when I receive emails from people who said "I saw in the Blog that...." or "I saw on Facebook that..." - makes all the time I spend writing the Blog and Facebook posts worthwhile! Thanks.

Are you coming to the Spring Fling??? If you are, you are in for an EXTRA treat:
With the 2011 Baseball Season upon us, the Museum of Bus Transportation invites you to visit their newest display: Buses and Baseball, featuring the All American Girls Professional Baseball League and the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams and the buses they rode on. The Museum of Bus Transportation which displays 12 vintage buses on the lower level of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum has arranged this special exhibit from June 1 to September 15, 2011.
The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, started by Philip K. Wrigley, the chewing-gum mogul who had inherited the Chicago Cub’s Major League Baseball franchise from his father, was formed when by the fall of 1942, many minor league teams disbanded due to the war. Young men, 18 years of age and over, were being drafted into the armed services. The all American Girls Professional Baseball League gave over 600 women athletes the opportunity to play professional baseball and to play it at a level never before attained. The League operated from 1943 to 1954 and represents one of the most unique aspects of our nation's baseball history. During the duration of the display, various former players will be available for signing autographs.
Like the teams of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the Negro League Baseball Association traveled to their away games in buses. Come and meet former players and experience a time gone by. The display includes uniforms and posters about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams along with memorabilia of the individual teams and similar vintage buses that the teams rode in during that time. Come step back in time and experience the sports world in the early to mid-20th century.

We are a little over 3 weeks away from the SPRING FLING. Are you planning on attending???
We have a whole new format this year--the vendors will be situated on the lower level of the Museum (nice and cool and comfortable and dry - in case of inclement weather)--at 1 pm there will be an auction of bus memorabilia that you won't want to miss.
There will be food right on the premises and every hour a complimentary bus will take those interested over to the Annex to see/photograph those buses that are parked outside the building. You will have an opportunity to do this for approximately 3/4 hour before returning to the Museum.
Also, if you are a member of the MBT, please bring your membership card for free entrance to the Museum. If you are not a member, you will receive a discounted $5 admission for the day! So it is a win-win all around. Hope to see you on the 4th of June!

Here's a report on the work session from Tuesday the 4th at the Annex:
Now that we have an air compressor onsite--the fellows were able to fill the tires of the RTS, Greyhound, Michaud and Transbridge buses.
We had a tire company come out to fix the Harran tires--the good news is--the tires are GOOD but 3 of them need the tubes replaced--which should run about $25/tube. Any donations??? Please contact us at thebusmuseum@yahoo.com if you would like to help us with this situation.
The overhead doorway on the north side of the building which was covered over with a small access door is in the process of being removed. Ed Wolf has donated the funds to replace that with an overhead door. All the parts and pieces are there--but the fellows are doing the labor (saving some $$$) to remove the old door before the door company can put in the new door. Thanks to Ken McNelis who refurbished the parts/pieces (hinges, pulleys) from the doors--so all but a few can be reused.! Good job Ken.

We sadly report this morning the passing of our dear friend and member, Dave Gregg. Dave and his family transported our 1977 MCI model MC-5C from the West Coast for us last year. May he rest in peace.
