While I was waiting for Helen Waddell to visit the Museum yesterday, I decided to take some pictures of the bricks out front--I've talked about these before--they are a GREAT way to contribute to YOUR Museum.

We had a great day yesterday with Helen "Sis" Waddell of the Rockford Peaches All-American Girls Professional Baseball Team.....lots of people, lots of reminiscing. We even had a reporter and photographer from the Harrisburg Patriot News--so an article should be in this morning's Patriot News - Sports Section!
UPDATE: Well, we got a copy of the paper finally--and would you believe they did NOT mention the Museum! They said she was in Hershey for a Bus Exhibit! Yikes! what was wrong with that reporter?

I just received information that the October 2010 issue of Hemmings Classic Cars
on page 88 has a story on our current bus exhibit (Buses of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and Buses of the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams) at museum.

It is with extreme sadness that we write this today. Our member, volunteer and dear friend, Willie Fordham, the Negro Leagues Baseball player who has been the center point of our exhibit, passed away suddenly early this morning at Holy Spirit Hospital in Harrisburg. He will be greatly missed. He was a true gentleman, a delight to talk to and a good friend. Willie had just turned 83 in July. His funeral arrangements are pending. May he rest in peace.

Visit the Museum on Sunday, August 29th from 12:30 - 4PM and meet Helen Waddell a former player with the Rockford Peaches.

An All-American basketball player in 1949, "Sis" then became a utility infielder/outfielder for the Rockford Peaches in 1950 when they won both the league and playoff titles. She played for the Peaches and Battle Creek in 1951, her last year in the AAGPBL. Interestingly, one of her granddaughters is nick-named "Peaches".

Helen is appearing at the Museum as part of the All-American Girls Baseball Buses Exhibit which runs through October 31st.
