Is it cold enough for everyone??? It was 6 degrees this morning here at our place in the Susquehanna Valley and I know many places here on the East Coast are much colder.

Here's a photo of a Greyhound bus is parked on the ice in front of the station, Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, in Atlanta.

The Soviet Roadside Bus-stop
Departure from the common and boring , Next stop the wild and crazy

For the most part Soviet architecture and design is remembered for its heavy block buildings and functionally Spartan designs. Its overpowering desire for conformity left little room for individual creative freedom. A notable exceptions to this is in the transportation sector. One can admire this creativity in the Metro stations of cities like Moscow and Tashkent where the coldness and sterility of typical soviet urban architecture is abandoned and costs are not spared as creative freedom is unleashed. While many of us are aware of the elaborate splendor of the Moscow underground, it is easy to overlook the phenomenon of the common roadside bus stop as an example of soviet art and design letting loose and becoming a little weird and crazy.

Well - we've had more snow--yesterday was miserable around here on the roads--this morning some roads are VERY icey--the hill next to our house (which is a road)--proved too much for a vehicle that wound up in the farm field across from the stop sign.

Scanning the internet for new bus photos - I ran across this one:

King Long Bus (CB 4627U) Bengtat Transport - On the PIE in Singapore, 25th December 2010.

Sorry I've not had more posts this week--the East Coast yet again was hit with a big snow storm--in addition to that shortly after coming from the Dr. who's parting words were "remember, no shoveling" I had a bad fall at the office on Tuesday--so I have been moving very slowly!

Here's a picture from one of our blog watchers to share....I don't think any description is needed!

I have been compiling some interesting statistics about the sales in our Gift Shop:

Our biggest seller is, of course, books....we sold 100 more units is 2010 than in 2009.

Next biggest seller is clothing - which is tee shirts, caps, visors - We sold 40 more units in 2010 than we sold in 2009.

The Magazines that we sell--past issues of many titles plus the Vintage Truck magazine that we sel new - we sold 50 more in 2010 than in 2009.

Our postcards, volumewise, did the best - we sold 275 more postcards in 2010 than we did in 2009.

On the downside--we sold 5 less Corgi models than we did in 2009, while selling 80 more "toy" models of buses.

You all know (I assume) that we have the Forrest Gump bus in the Museum--it is one of the most popular buses that we have on the floor.

Did you know there is a restaurant (I believe it is a chain)--in Manhattan called the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company??? It is at 1501 Broadway, New York.

I believe they ask you trivia questions about the movie - sounds like a GREAT place!
