Here are a few of the pictures I took yesterday while they filmed the piece for Fox43 News.

Checkout the Current Activities page of our website for a link to the rest of the photos I snapped.
Here's the link to the video--type antique auto museum in search and you will come up with 4 segments--we are segment 1 and 2.
OR checkout the AACA Museum website and click on Buses of the All American Girls Baseball Teams - they have the actual videos (better copies than from the fox43 site).

Wow - our exhibit is not even officially open -- we are still tweaking it and adding items to the display--but it has been received very well--many younger visitors are enjoying the exhibit!
Local Fox43 TV News did two 2-minute segments from here this morning--great job Oliver!

As you know, we are doing an encore presentation of the very successful exhibit "Buses of the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams" -- which is running in conjunction with the "Buses of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League." We had so many great comments from the visitors as we were putting up the display--many had memories of either the Negro Leagues or the Girls Teams!

Have you gotten your latest MUSINGS??? If you are a member of the Museum, you should have it in the mail this week.

A correction on the back page is in order....under the heading "MBT Gift Shop" -- it was reported that the Gift Shop had sales of $3,934.79 for the first six month--doesn't sound like a lot--well, it isn't--that was what the Gift Shop did for the MONTH OF JUNE! The sales for the first 6 months = $8,122.40! Books constitute $3,028.52 of that--the figure given in the report is again JUST for the month of June. Now, that's more like it! Way to go guys!

Wow, the month is halfway gone already--we are gearing up for the new exhibit to start August 1--we are very excited about this exhibit--because it brings different venues together to the Museum--bus nuts, sports nuts, women's sports nut! Oops--didn't mean to call anyone a "nut"--but you know what I mean. Please plan to join us during the month of August for this fantastic exhibit!

Even if you saw the Buses of the Negro Leagues display in February, we hope you will return to see all the new memorabilia in the encore exhibit. We were in Kansas City in June and visited the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and acquired some new items to display. So plan to join us in August for this encore display.

Mark your calendars now to visit the Museum during the month of August--here's our latest press release:

All American Girls Professional Baseball League and Their Buses will be a new display for August, 2010 along with an encore presentation of the Buses of the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams which was originally displayed in February of this year at the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum. The Museum of Bus Transportation which displays 12 vintage buses on the lower level of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Museum has arranged this special exhibit for the month of August.

By the fall of 1942, many minor league teams disbanded due to the war. Young men, 18 years of age and over, were being drafted into the armed services. The fear that this pattern would continue and that Major League Baseball Parks across the country were in danger of collapse is what prompted Philip K. Wrigley, the chewing-gum mogul who had inherited the Chicago Cubs' Major League Baseball franchise from his father, to search for a possible solution to this dilemma. Wrigley asked Ken Sells, assistant to the Chicago Cubs' General Manager to head a committee to come up with ideas. The committee recommended a girls' softball league be established to be prepared to go into Major League parks should attendance fall due to franchises losing too many quality players to attract crowds.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League gave over 600 women athletes the opportunity to play professional baseball and to play it at a level never before attained. The League operated from 1943 to 1954 and represents one of the most unique aspects of our nation's baseball history.

Like the teams of the Negro League Baseball Association, they traveled to their away games in buses. Display includes uniforms and posters about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams along with memorabilia of the individual teams and similar vintage buses that the teams rode in during that time. Come step back in time and experience the sports world in the early to mid-20th century.

At our Board Meeting on Tuesday evening--it was unanimously decided to hold the SPRING FLING for 2011 on Saturday, June 4, 2011 - for 1 day only! Another big change is that the Vendor Sales will take place on the lower level of the Museum near our bus display. We think this is a positive change--one, because of the weather--we will be in a nice, air-conditioned arena and two, EVERYONE can then enjoy the bus display! The Annex will also be available for those who would like to photograph/see our buses that are located there--details to be worked out later.

Social Media is the newest way to be in touch with the world and get more bus fans! We need to keep this fresh in order to compete in the world of electronic media…..we need to keep our supporters up-to-date with information about the Museum.

Website

www.busmuseum.org

We are now averaging 40 hits a day.

During our Buses of the Negro Leagues Baseball Teams exhibit we averaged 50/hits a day. The day the NY Times picked up the story and put it in their blog—we had almost 300 hits on our website on one day! Definitely an all-time record.

Blog

www.thebusmuseum.blogspot.com

We have 15 “followers” and had been averaging about 10 hits per day. However, since we have a presence on Facebook – we have been averaging 23 hits per day. Also, everytime I posted about our new Fageol—the hits increased that day! I spend many hours researching all types of bus information and trivia to put on the blog—not only about the Museum but about buses in general.

Facebook

www.facebook.com – search BUS MUSEUM
We have 611 “followers” on Facebook—which means 611 people see our posts EVERYTIME I post something on Facebook! We are enjoying an average of 28 interactions a week—which means some of our followers are posting on our site items about the Museum. We have people from 20 countries + the United States! I think this is awesome and I accomplished this just during the last two month in large part with the help and encouragement of Jim Michaud.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July--we are having heat wave here in the east--to be 100+ today.

The Museum is open if you want to cool off--they are, however, experiencing an electrical problem but only on the top floor office area--so the Museum itself is not affected.

Enjoy this Pickwick cast iron toy I found on the internet!
